Today we
started the day with a buffet breakfast at a nearby Golf Course and managed to
see a few species within the grounds on our way out. One species was Green
Junglefowl and another couple included Crescent chested Babbler and Freckle
breasted Woodpecker.
Soon,
though, we returned to the Botanical Gardens. Here we were dropped near the top
of the gardens and the idea was we would take our time and saunter down the
hill.
Birding was
okay and the birds were largely quiet. We started with reasonable views of Dark
backed Imperial Pigeon and Little Cuckoo Dove. Blood breasted Flowerpecker, Whistler,
Little Pied Flycatcher, Black naped Oriole, Ashy Drongo plus Glossy Starlings
were the main birds seen.
Further
down the hill Mountain Warblers, Javan Heleias, Grey headed Canary Flycatchers
were seen. Yellow-throated Hanging parrots were also seen but only by a few.
Following lunch and the obligatory down time we went to lakeside Lake Bayun where an excellent wetland held our interest.
It was enroute to here we saw Brown Honeyeaters - the same species common in east and north Australia and the only Honeyeater that crosses Wallace's Line.
The wetland had Common Moorhen, White browed Crake, Javan Pond-heron, White breasted Waterhen and our bird of the day - Ruddy breasted Crake. Zitting Cisticolas were also active.
