It is a secret treat for birders to visit sewerage ponds. This, generally speaking, is a hobby that is difficult to explain to the non birding dude. My second visit to Bali in 1998 had a visit to the ponds. The taxi driver, upon hearing my destination request, literally pulled the car over, stopped the motor and explained that there many beautiful places in Bali; a not so subtle suggestion that sewerage ponds are not beautiful. Hopefully some of the following pictures of birds can argue that there is beauty there...
