Flores Birding

Bare-throated Whistler

The Indonesian island of Flores, located to the east of Wallace's Line, is worth a visit for birdwatchers.  As an island that remained isolated for millions of years, Flores evolved its own unique flora and fauna, creating a one-of-a-kind ecosystem. Birding here can be difficult but worth it to see some of the many endemics. Sadly like much of Indonesia poaching of birds is a serious problem and one that seems a long way from being solved.

Nurlin had employed a local guide, Maximilianus Wago, aka Max, who clearly knew the birds and locations to search for them. Ultimately we needed more time....
